Inverness is a city in the Scottish Highlands. It's on the banks of the River Ness and about 20 miles north of Fort William.

In 1746, Bonnie Prince Charlie marched his Jacobite army into Inverness before losing the battle against government troops at Culloden Moor just north of the city - which led to him being forced into exile.

Inverness started growing in the 1800s when the railway arrived and new industries such as textiles and whisky distilling started. It was also during this time that the Ness Bridge was built, which helped to connect the town with the rest of Scotland.

Today, Inverness is a vibrant city with a population of about 47,000. It's a popular place to live and work because of its great location and all the amenities it has to offer. The city centre is full of shops, restaurants, bars, and hotels, and plenty of parks and places to go for walks or hikes. Inverness is also home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC, the local football team that has recently been plying their trade in the Scottish Premier League.

If you're looking for a place to visit in the Scottish Highlands, Inverness is a great choice. There's always something going on in the town and it's a great place to sample some of Scotland's famous whisky!
